  AFA Stafford Scholarship Awards

Each year the Carl Vinson Chapter, through the efforts of a great golf fundraiser, are able to initiate and provide a scholarship to striving young Air Force personnel. These scholarships are named the Sherrill Stafford Memorial Scholarships, and were designed to provide financial assistance to on active duty that are working to further their education. Sherrill Stafford was an avid AFA supporter, past Chapter President, and Chairman, Houston County Commissioners, and was a cornerstone of the local community. We were pleased that the chapter was able to provide five $500 third year during the third year of this educational activity.

Chapter Notes: Vision Classrooms

The Aerospace Education Foundation with USA TODAY and local Chapter 296 of the Air Force Association, have teamed together to encourage the skills necessary for success in math and science among the nation's elementary and middle school children. Visions of Exploration provide selected classrooms with 18 weeks of USA TODAY (30 newspapers) and a teacher's lesson plan to give children practical examples of science and technology. Our chapter sponsored classrooms this year all over Middle Georgia.

AFA Thank a Vet  Run
Our 2007 “Thank-A-Vet-Run” was a resounding success and the participation by over 100 runners highlights the event’s growing popularity with both the base and local populations. In addition to honoring all veterans, past and present, this year’s event raised $1,500 for the Museum of Aviation’s POW/MIA memorial monument project.
